December has been a ‘tidying-up’ month for Forebears—making things pretty and presentable for Christmas!
Let Me Update You
Release 3.3.1 added a simple but long-overdue feature. Now, when you open the Forebears app, it automatically checks if an update is waiting to be installed. You’ll see a prompt inviting you to update from time to time. Not exactly rocket science, I hear you say, but something that was clearly needed given the long tail of updates that can go on for weeks after a new release.

In my perfect world, the many thousands of users who’ve downloaded Forebears would all be subscribers to this blog and get full value from the information shared here. To help move in that direction, you’ll now see occasional invitations to subscribe when you use Forebears. Did I say “Take Note”?
That’s right! My thanks go to Chris from Littlehampton and his granddaughter for encouraging me to add a new note-taking feature to Forebears. The app has long been able to receive and display notes that are imported within GEDCOM files. Well now, the very latest release—out today—lets you add a textual note to any member of your family group. And of course, these notes can also be exported along with all the other data in GEDCOM file format to share with others. I’m expecting to build on this feature in future releases by including notes in the published Person Index.
Your Turn
I’d love to hear what you think about these updates. Have you tried the new note-taking feature? What would you like to see in future releases? Your feedback shapes the future of Forebears, so please share your thoughts in the comments below or reach out through the app’s Support section.
